Ayurveda is one of the oldest Indian medical sciences. It could be traced from the Book of Vedas, which is the oldest available classic of the world. Vedas are one of the oldest books of knowledge, or science, from the ancient days of India. It consists of practical and scientific information on various subjects useful to the humanity like health, philosophy, engineering, astrology etc. It is a holistic remedial science which encompasses of two words. Ayu and Veda. Ayu means life and Veda means knowledge .e. So the definite meaning of the word Ayurveda is the science of life. One of method dealing not only with treatment of diseases but is also a complete way of life.

A philosophy which is old based on a profound understanding of eternal truths about the human body.  It is a study, which is based on the fundamental principles of ‘Panchabootha’ earth, water, air, fire and space] residing in nature and inside human being. It teaches that the body and mind are one component with total manifestations. Our thoughts can affect us physically & mentally and can bring disorder in our whole body. There are no separate phenomena as only physical or psychological.

It is the matter, organic and inorganic, which exists according to a set of predetermined laws: there is a little anarchy in nature. Whereas animals live according to a set of rules, which promotes their healthy survival, and they reproduce in the correct season. Whereas the leaves of plants follow a pattern that ensures that leaves, flowers and fruits grow in a particular order nothing else. Eventually the diseases would attack the humans if they do not live their lives according to the right principles and those lives in a proper way.

Life according to Ayurveda is a combination of senses, body, mind, and soul. It is clear from this definition that it is not only limited to body or physical symptoms but also gives a wide-ranging knowledge about spiritual, mental and social health & soul. It involves and practises the theory of balance. According it is the state of balance and disease which affects the health. Its aim is to give complete health and not just getting free from physical diseases. Its aim is to have a happy, healthy and peaceful life in the society. Two most important aims are: to maintain the health of healthy people and to cure the diseases of sick people.

Ayurveda helps us to understand each individual at a very subtle personal level.It also teaches how to live life in a true and natural balance and how to live in society and in the universe without disturbing the natural balance. Not only deals with diseases and treatments but also a complete way of life. It explains how one can make his life advantageous or disadvantageous for himself, others and what one can do to make his life happy or unhappy. It also describes the good and bad which effects life through actions, activities, foods etc. One should maintain this balance and can remain healthy and happy, otherwise he live in disease, unhappiness and misery.

This particular treatment does not suppresses the main symptoms or create new ones as side effects of the main treatment. It deals with the root cause and gives permanent relief. The treatment consists of powders, tablets, decoctions, medicated oils etc. generally prepared from natural herbs, plants and minerals. It is a purifying therapy which enhances the metabolic process through food and other herbal medicines. It means five types of actions or techniques or treatment.

In Ayurveda, medicines are generally prepared from natural and organic materials making the only eco-friendly medical science now known. This programme comprises mainly of Pizhichil, Kizhi, Dhara, Vasthi and Avisnanam. According to Ayurveda, the human body consists of three primary life forces or biological humors. This is called  Vatha, Pitha and Kapha. These three doshas are called the tridoshas. A balance of these life forces is essential for proper health. Any imbalance amongst the tridoshas causes a state of unhealthiness or disease. The Ayurveda says that this imbalance is the effect of the constant reaction of the internal environment of body . Also  changes in the external environment.
